Lactation Hub Suck Training Finger Caps – Pack of 3
The Lactation Hub suck training finger caps are specialist tools for practitioner-recommended infant oral-function exercises, suck training and palate desensitisation.
Designed to fit over an adult finger, their textured surface provides gentle tactile input to the baby’s tongue, lips, gums and palate. This sensory input may encourage tongue and lip movement, stimulate the rooting reflex and help a baby become gradually more comfortable with touch inside their mouth.
Made from soft, 100% food-grade silicone, the finger caps are BPA-free, PVC-free, lead-free and phthalate-free.
What may suck training finger caps be used for?
When recommended for an individual baby, the finger caps may be used during exercises intended to:
- Provide gentle sensory and tactile input inside the mouth
- Encourage tongue and lip movement
- Stimulate the rooting reflex
- Support tongue cupping, extension and lateral movement
- Help a baby practise developing a more organised sucking pattern
- Support palate and gum desensitisation
- Gradually reduce oral sensitivity or defensiveness
- Help reduce an over-responsive gag reflex
- Support exercises intended to encourage a deeper latch
- Assist with oral exercises recommended for babies with tethered oral tissues, sometimes referred to as TOTS
The appropriate exercises will depend on the baby’s individual feeding assessment. Not every baby with feeding difficulties, a sensitive gag reflex or tethered oral tissues will require suck training or oral desensitisation.

How to use suck training finger caps
Only perform exercises that have been demonstrated specifically for your baby by an IBCLC, speech and language therapist, occupational therapist or another appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
Before every use:
- Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.
- Ensure your fingernail is clean, smooth and trimmed short.
- Inspect the finger cap for tears, splitting or other signs of damage.
- Clean the finger cap according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Place it fully over your finger and check that it is secure.
- Follow the technique and duration demonstrated by your baby’s feeding professional.
- Remove the finger cap immediately after completing the exercise.
- Wash and dry it thoroughly before storing it in a clean, dry place.
Do not insert the finger cap farther into the baby’s mouth than instructed. Stop the exercise if the baby becomes distressed, repeatedly gags, coughs, struggles to breathe or strongly resists.
Important information
The LactationHub suck training finger caps are tools for carrying out recommended oral exercises. They do not diagnose or treat tongue-tie, oral dysfunction, breast refusal or other feeding difficulties.
Oral exercises and palate desensitisation should be tailored to the individual baby. Inappropriate or unnecessary exercises may cause distress or increase oral aversion. Always use the technique provided by the professional who assessed the baby.
The finger caps must be held securely by an adult throughout use. They are not teethers, soothers or toys and must never be left in a baby’s mouth or within a child’s reach. Continuous adult supervision is required.
Do not share finger caps between babies. Discontinue use and replace immediately if the silicone becomes damaged, loose, sticky, discoloured or otherwise deteriorated.
